The middle of nothingness…

Sitting out in the middle of what feels like a vast nothingness.

Far off in the darkness the flickering orange flames from your campfire acts as a directional beacon to lead you to your bed when you’re done for the night.

Above you a trillion bazillion stars twinkle and shine with all their might; some from a distance, others so close you could almost reach up into the velvety soft dark sky and touch them.

It’s a mesmerising, spellbinding vision… inspiring a sense of recognition of your place in the universe, right there, right then in that moment. Humble, grateful, a sense of rightness and peace washing over you.

Captivated by the spectacular vista, filled with a sense of wonder, so calm and peaceful, grateful to be where you are right there in those precious moments.

Capturing those stars and planets digitally to create images that convey even half of what you’re seeing, feeling and experiencing out there as well as you can, and sharing that with the world.

Lost in the vista, enthralled in the experience, aware of the wind as it swirls around you, softly whooshing past as it begins to pick up.

Glancing around you come back to where you are, with more of an awareness of the vastness of where you are. A thought and vision of those who were here in the space before you; weary travellers that crossed these same lands, but on foot or by wagon, seeking their fortunes or just looking to create a better life for themselves and their families in the new towns that sprung up everywhere.

Remembering too, the travellers of the lands from so long ago, who have passed here over hundreds and thousands of years.

The wind picks up a little more. Looking around you can barely make out the dying glow from your campfire as it’s hidden momentarily by the bushes dancing in the breeze. Heading towards it, picking up your pace as you’re awareness of how far out you’ve gone, your imagination envisioning the myriad of souls who passed by before you.

Back at camp, the fire now extinguished for the night, gear packed away, finally in bed. Hopeful your images turn out as you envisioned them, and satisfied with your night’s endeavours.

To be out there, to experience the night skies far from the crowds and light pollution of the cities, and to be aware and so grateful to those who passed by so long ago, forging the paths that became to roads and tracks that you’ve travelled to be there.

Absolutely magical.
