What’s in a name…
Jack is my Jeep Wrangler. He’s a beautiful bright yellow (Baja Yellow according to Jeep) 2015 Overland Special Edition model. He’s the (car) love of my life and I love driving him.
We’ve been on lots of adventures, exploring mostly WA but also as far east as William Creek and Lake Eyre SA, south as far as Fowlers Bay SA and Augusta WA, north as far as Onslow WA, and as far west as Perth, obviously. We’ve crossed the Nullarbor a couple of times and plan to do a heck of a lot more. So far he’s done 274,000 odd kms and is still going strong.
Some people assume I named him Jack cos he’s a Jeep, well to be honest that never even occurred to me. I was pondering what his name should be and thinking about what he means to me, and what he was adding to my life.
To me the name Jack epitomises strength, robustness, reliability, steadfastness.
If he was a guy he’d be a mix of MacGyver - coming up with a quick solution to get me out of trouble), Jack from jack & the beanstalk cos he’s pretty quick off the mark and responsive as heck; Hercules - strong, musclebound, hunky, someone you just need to look at and know he’ll scare off potential danger, and take care of whatever threats come along; The Incredible Hulk - for the same reasons as Hercules, except the hulk isn’t really hunky, he’s more like chunky… my Jack is a true aerodynamic brick.
He brings me freedom, he brings me safe travels, he brings me a heck of a lot of fun adventures, he exactly fits my lifestyle.
He’s strong, tough, reliable, capable, competent, and pretty much an all round cool dude. He always has my back no matter what I might drive him into, so I should add tolerant into that mix too. He doesn’t mind when I park him in the middle of a large swatch of flowers to take pretty pictures, and doesn’t complain when the drones take off from and land back on him.
He carries everything I need to travel with, including the kitchen sink, and makes for a pretty sturdy base for my rooftop tent aka my penthouse apartment, and also provides a pretty safe space to sleep inside when Im travelling swift and light.
