Back out the back…

After a quick stop at the supermarket to grab some essentials, me n Jack hit the road for the first time since Christmas… it felt so good to be back on the road!

A short overnight stop at a lovely place I’ve not been for a year or two, was a good place to take a stroll and stretch my legs after a good few hours behind the wheel.

Sketchy snake tracks in front of me on the dusty trail; they’re just little snakes, Bob said with a cheeky grin and a twinkling eye. Bob’s the caretaker out there, more about him next time ;)

‘Rubbish’, I replied, and we agreed to disagree on the size of the snakes that left those tracks… those many many tracks.

I made up a little song to sing as I walked, hoping to scare the snakes well away from my path.

Judging from the cute little brown and white, and grey rabbits everywhere there was plenty of food for them to snack on if they could catch them.

After a lovely evening watching the sun go down, and a couple of hours, a cold brew or two while catching up with Bob the caretaker, I climbed up into my rooftop bed, diffused moonlight helping to light my steps.

Bliss.

On the road again before the sun rose, and with a hot coffee in hand, I was keen to see how some familiar locations, not flown for a long time, were looking after the long dry summer.

Its always interesting to see what kind of textures and features can be found on the surface of those otherworldly and ever changing salt lakes.

A couple of kangaroos bounded across the road well in front of Jack and I, as we slowed right down to allow them to hop back again and rejoin their mob on the other side of the fence.

I love that kind of start to the day.  😍

We parked up and I set Maximilian up for his first flight of the day.

A gorgeous red fox slunk across the track behind Jack, a sideways glance in my direction as he passed.

That’s the closest I’ve ever been to a fox, and I was pretty stoked to see it so close.

A couple of hours later, Max’s batteries were spent.

The sun was rising higher in the sky, the temperature rising with it, and the wind picking up again after a gentle breezy kind of morning.

It was time to pack up and head home, my need for wide open spaces and different perspectives somewhat satisfied… for now….

Driving down the last dirt road before hitting the bitumen, another kangaroo mob kept pace alongside Jack for a while, the safety of a fence between us… see you later guys, I thought, hope to see you again soon.
