Gladstone Bay…
A bit up the road from my place, about 8 hours drive north, is a little place I finally got to duck into for a short stop, earlier this year.
It’s this particular place that I had in mind for Jilly’s inaugural trip with me n Jack, welcoming her to the crew. I think a week here using Jilly as base camp would be amazing.
There’s a little sign on the unassuming farm style gate that tells you this is where you need to go, to get to the paradise that’s waiting at the end of the drive. If you blink you’ll miss it. The drive is long and dusty, like all such roads in Oz leading you to the little pockets of paradise dotted around the country.
Facilities are pretty basic, a bit luxurious really, in a bush camp like this.
Your ears will be filled with the sounds of the tide rolling in, and rolling back out, a steady murmur, a gentle trickle. The cries and chatter of the seabirds, hunting down their next tasty meal, either plucked from the sea or scabbed from amongst the campers dotted up and down the coastline.
Your eyes will relax watching the glittering reflections of the sunlight dancing across the top of the ripples of water, and feast on the spectacle the sun makes, descending toward the horizon and below. A blazing kaleidoscope of colour, fading into darkness as night falls, and the stars begin their own sparkling display in the sky high above you.
It’s a peaceful place, a restful place, a soulful space, you can really feel it.
It’s the perfect place to park the camper and go off during the day exploring the coastline or the landscape this little bay sits on the edge of. It’s an ancient looking land, a bit alien-like, seemingly untouched by human hands.
It’s called Gladstone Bay and Im really looking forward to spending a bigger chunk of time there.
Time to make a plan for 2024 and all the places Jack and Jilly can adventure to together 😌
