I wanna be a cowgirl…
You can’t go to Texas without buying a pair or more of authentic real life cowboy or cowgirl boots, right? If I had my way, I’d be in jeans and boots everyday. Why the heck I live in the ‘burbs I have no idea.
Having only a tiny blip of time in Texas I turned to Google to help me track down what I was looking for.
With five pairs pre-selected online, and identifying the store before I hit the road, it was just a matter of finding them and seeing which ones I actually liked, and if the store had my size.
Not such a big ask… hopefully.
Discovering the store had quite a number of branches scattered across the city, it became a slightly bigger challenge, given I was now driving in an actual city, although on the smaller side, and day 4 of driving in the US. Driving in there country was pretty easy, driving in the city on a gloomy, rainy morning, not quite so much fun.
But…a mission is a mission regardless of the hazards… (cue western music sound effect)
Onto the freeway here, off the freeway down there, around and up, down lots of roads and through a round about - my first in the US of A, and luckily nobody else was near it at the time, I made not to the first and nearest store.
Not a single one of my chosen pairs did they have in store. The helpful shop assistant suggested another couple of branches not too far away, unfortunately their computer system didn’t locate exact styles at any particular location, so I chose the biggest store about 20 mins away as my next target.
Back on the freeway, down and around, onto a different freeway and off again, through a similar maze as before, I found the biggest boot store I’ve ever seen.
Luckily for me they had three of the styles on my wishlist - success at last! One didn’t look so great in the flesh, so to speak, the other two fit like a glove. My mission was complete!
A teeny nosy into another boot store two doors down, a chat with a charming local and I walked out better informed as to the freeway loop system and a pretty cool cap, courtesy of the charming local ;)
With a bit of time on my hands and the sun coming out to heat up the day, it was into the city I headed, hoping to check out The Alamo, as one should in such a historic place. The eclipse however had brought a ton of people into the city so the queue was well down the road and around the corner.
I guess I’ll have to come back some other time, I thought to myself. Having spent a lot of my childhood playing cowboys and cowgirls it was pretty significant to be in such a place.
Exploring the beautiful River Walk just around the corner took up a few hours while waiting to check into my hotel. This city like so many others across the world, was built on the banks of a river and is lined with cafes and bars and a wide range of stores.
A very pretty place to pass some time away.
Off to the hotel to pack my precious treasures away and off to a Mexican restaurant for dinner, my faster than the speed of light San Antonio experience was complete.
A single day somewhere new and exciting is never ever enough…
