Out the gate…
After a few false starts over the last quite a while, it was with a lot of glee (and a bit of help to be fair) that Jilly was finally out the gate and hooked up behind Jack for a weekend away.
Not just any weekend away though, one that had been booked several months ago, one that gets a pretty big tick on the Western Australian rodeo circuit from what I’d heard. Tickets for camping had been sold out for a while, I’d managed to get a site in the overflow area.
We were off to the Boddington Rodeo 🤠… yeehaw!
With access to the campsites open on Friday afternoon it seemed wise to take a day off work and head on down early to get set up.
It was also the first trip away with the camper since the new electric roof lifter was installed, and while it worked like a charm in my back yard, I was interested to see how it would go outside the gate, in the real world. This roof lifting has been a bit of a challenge since I bought her a year ago, so the trust is still to be built.
Finding our campsite on the town golf course, and being there nice & early, it was pretty easy to set the camper parked up and then it was time to crack a cold one, as they say, the obligatory beer to celebrate getting there and being officially ‘away’.
With the stabiliser legs down it was roof raising time. Pushing that little blue glowing button, we stood back and watched the roof go up and up, like magic. What a relief!
We were well set for an awesome weekend of dust, flies and a heck of a lot of fun. Most people I had mentioned the rodeo to over the last few months seemed to know someone who was going to be there so I expected a bit of a crowd. It kind of looked like half the population of Perth was there!
Cowboys here, cowgirls there, almost everyone dressed the part. Boots n blue jeans, hats (akubra’s), whips n engraved leather belts, lassoes n barrels, horses, bulls and steers, even a few teeny tots riding their first ever barrel races… it was all going on! Country music blaring and ice cold beer to wash the dust down with… pure bliss 🍻
It was a huge night of entertainment and the crowd were fully engaged inside and out. It was fantastic to see Scarlets Way brought their fiddler along again… such an incredible talent! Outside boot scooting lines formed and scooted, broke up and formed again as others stepped in. An amazing night!
Wandering up the road back to our campsite past tired but happy campers, some ready to continue into the night, others ready to call it a night, a chilled and happy vibe throughout.
With a slow start the next morning we still managed to be packed up and headed out of town early… another rodeo experience under my belt, a little more faith gained in the camper… another successful weekend away 😊
Congrats to the town of #boddington for a successful rodeo weekend, it was an absolute pleasure and I’ll hopefully be back next year.
