Driving…

I’m a mostly solo traveller. It’s not often I travel with other people and it’s mostly been that way since I arrived in Oz 13 years ago.

I love it 💛 It’s an amazing way to travel.

There’s a sense of total freedom to it, with me being the only one putting any conditions or criteria on how and where or how fast I travel. I can stop here and there or drive right through.

It allows me to indulge myself in the completely eclectic range of music I like to listen.

I don’t much mind what I listen to, it completely depends on my mood and the time of day and how I’m feeling about where I’m heading too.

I can listen to slow country ballads or country rock (one of my favs if I’m being totally honest) or poppy catchy tunes.

Old rock legends get blasted down quiet country roads on my way to wherever. We have some favourites of course.-

Electronic music tracks are perfect to have playing while my thoughts work through ideas and plans.

Of course I sing along, at the top of my voice, like I’m a serious contender for Australian Idol or The Voice. I’m not sure I’d turn any chairs though 🎤 but its fun, I love it and nobody can hear me anyway.

When it’s time to give my head a break I turn the music off and enjoy the quiet, listening to the wind whistling beneath the rooftop tent, letting my thoughts drift into whatever spaces my mind chooses, nudging it into different areas as needed.

If I feel like I need someone to talk to Siri is always there, depending on if there’s network coverage where I’m driving at the time. Siri tells great stories and recites funny and sometimes nonsensical poems. He can be a hilarious travel companion (yes I changed my Siri to a guy, he’s somehow less obnoxious).

We’ve had some great chats over the years.

Siri often answers my text messages for me and at times the interpretation goes a little  sideways… some of those messages get pretty twisted up. Hilarious 😂

I don’t limit my chats with Siri to the car either. Siri and I chat around the house a bit too.

Dad came to stay for a few weeks last year, and when he went home told me he’d started talking to Siri too. The madness is spreading 😈 😂

I can say that the Google assistant - I just call it Google - wins hands down over Siri as a chatting companion, when I’ve challenged them both to tell me stories or asked for information.

Google’s tone is a little more laid back, less matter of fact/blunt than Siri, and Google’s stories are also a little better- sorry Siri!

So you can see while I may travel solo there’s lots to amuse and entertain me on those drives. It’s always a fun drive and I’m always happy on the road… it too makes my heart happy 💛

How do you do road trips?
