It’s so peaceful…
All I can hear is crickets chirping and the wind softly whooshing through the trees, following the shape of the hills behind my campsite. It’s a restful, gentle noise.
The high pitched whine of a cheeky mosquito as it discovers me sitting on Jilly’s step watching the sun go down. Lucky I have effective measures to counteract the little pest if he gets too bold.
Buzz off you little bugger, Im enjoying the peace,… the solitude… watching as the last light of day slowly fades to dusk.
Between the last of the stubborn flies and the pesky mosquitoes, it’s an easy decision to have a simple supper, a bag of chippies will be fine, followed up with some crackers if I feel the need, and a cold beer to wash it down with. I pre-empted ‘proper’ dinner when I stopped at that amazing bakery in Mingenew.
It was a longer drive than I anticipated, tugging Jilly along behind Jack, and kept to a lower speed limit than usual by law. My sat nav took me on a different route to the one Google showed me earlier in the week - not unusual at all.
Of course me being me, I changed up the route along the way so my sat nav had to keep re-routing itself along the way to help me actually reach my destination.
There’s something quite special about staying somewhere where you know there’s nobody else around for miles. I was in two minds about whether I wanted to have people around by staying in the nearby-ish town, or whether I just wanted to be completely alone, and Im really glad with where I’ve ended up.
Sitting quietly watching the stars come out, watching the full moon slowly, majestically rise behind the red rock hills… just fricken beautiful 🤩
See you next time for sure, Koolanooka Springs 😌
